4.42 build 61] Added support for games with colons in their description to the fix.dat creator. added rmCleanSystemName for rm.disp to use when displaying single system stats; it tries to be smart about adding ROMs to system names (art, layouts, mpegs, & any other non-tosec system name that ends with s will not have it appended). i finally took a closer look at deleting temp fix.dat & complete stats.txt files in the rm.sendfile function. it now really works. you should delete any left over fix.dat & complete stats.txt files from your mirc and rm folders. the files inside the '_Files Sent by RomManager' folder are safe to delete, but will not be done automatically. and lastly but not leastly, i give you (b1u3j waits for the drum roll), system stats inside the rm dialog!!! Some other new DATs/authors have been included as well. * Updated TOSEC to use the 436 dats available at the moment. TOSEC.org has an all new DAT generator to replace the previous buggy one, but even that might be replaced soon by the new TIM tool they are working on. Until something changes, we will try to keep copies of the TOSEC DATs available at rommanager.com. While the TOSEC DAT names are stable, the data inside them is not and still has bugs. If you decide to switch to the new structure, please keep a backup of the 20040327 release (the last no bug version). Some of the databases released on the site or in Tugid TDB were either dupes or incorrectly named, so we made the needed corrections. * Removed Vivanonno set, as most of the roms are in Mame and the current dumps are uncertified. * JPeMu dats renamed, because the encoded sets aren't needed anymore. This TOSEC "revolution" has forcing us to make one choice: to provide "snapshots" of their online database from time to time as one solid pack, since imho the way they're offering databases is not satisfying for collectors. At this date, I'm pretty sure you cannot get all the sets by creating them manually (about four hundred times). So it was quite vital we provide the last "good state" available (and corrected some errors they made on-the-fly, details below). You will find in download page the 398 last 'old mood' Tosec dats as one pack (now only CM and RC formats). That was a while since the last update, so we made a few cleaning in the databases / categories organization. We hope that will satisfy more people like this: +++ Notes ;;; * Replaced the Unemulated Arcade category by a single dat, since the separation by year was arbitrary and induced unbalanced sizes between the sets. * Creation of a dedicated Fruit Machines category. 3 reasons : - The number of dats involved (Troutman is still at work !) - Not everyone are willing to collect them, so they just have to look elsewhere. - We just gained a blank space for the new icon ;) * The 'MAME Artwork' database, is not part of the MAME Art category (not as the name tells) because it's really a part of the emu/simulation, just like the samples. In the Art category, you'll find only various collections of pictures, mainly intended for MAME frontends. * Several dats titles corrected or modified to maintain homogeneity. As you can see at the top, there's a totally new version of RomManager, which is not compatible with v2.xx. Don't have a regret, that's the only negative point about it. It includes many new features and has different/better behaviour in many cases. It should work with any mIrc version >5.9 . Also, I'm counting on your bug-reports to help me coding a perfect tool. The dat filling hierarchy has had some serious modifications with RM 3. We hope it's more logical and.. clean like this, at the price of rescanning most of your sets (I'm sorry for this inconvenience). | 20020220 | As many of you already know, I have been serving as the founder of the IRC channel #roms4free on NewNet since October of 2000. Unfortunately, the time has come for me to give up this endeavor. Indeed, the time has come for me to take leave of this part of 'the emulation scene' entirely. As you can tell from my posts on this site, I've never been particularly wordy, and thus I'll keep this relatively short. I could ramble endlessly about the current state of 'the scene,' (especially Nintendo 64 and MPU Fruit Machines) but that is not my goal here. While I will certainly admit that the attitude of many 'sceners' desperately needs improvement, I'll not be so naïve as to name them as my primary reason for my decision. Yes, I have become quite sick of the endless asininities performed, the results of many puerile teenagers with nothing better to do. But no, they have not forced me away. They are tolerable. What is not tolerable is the sheer amount of time I've wasted in this community. Yes, much of it was spent bettering the place, keeping ROM lists up-to-date, or even providing new/useful information to those who needed it. But far too much of it was spent in that ubiquitous state known as 'idling.' I've realized that this squandering of time is something in which I no longer desire to participate. I am currently a Junior at university, studying Computer Science. Contrary to popular belief, this does take time and effort. I have artistic interests in computer generated graphics, photography, and music. Contrary to popular belief, this also takes time and effort. I have met a wonderful young woman whom I respect far more than many of the sex-crazed lunatics on IRC are even capable of, and my relationship with her does, contrary to popular belief, take time and effort. I work as an assistant to many professors on my campus. Contrary to popular belief, this takes time and effort. In short, I believe that I have better things to do with my time. Note that I am not totally devoiding myself of emulation entirely... I'm sure I'll keep up with the things that interest me and maybe even visit the IRC channels on occasion, but I do not wish to maintain a position as the founder of #roms4free, nor will I be able to perform the upkeep required of this, the RMD site. Thus, I have made the following two decisions: 1. By a democratic voting system, Judge_ has been named as the 'successor to foundership' of #roms4free. 2. I have made available my editing tool for RomManager, and you may do what with it as you please. If, however, someone believes themself responsible and informed enough to continue maintenance of the RomManager rlm.ini file or RMDats, I will provide access to the website (Skybaby willing, of course) for updating. The script itself is in the public domain, but please at least give me credit if you decide to blatantly rip off of it. I do wish to express my gratitude for everything my friends amongst 'the scene' have done for me over the years we've known each other. Without the kindness of certain others, I would certainly not have stayed around as long as I did. I think you know who you are, so I shouldn't have to name anyone.
